Things I’ve been thinking about lately—how important human connection is, deeper connection with people is important, talking through what you’re feeling with a community that “gets it” is important and people need help.
So if you’re in or around Laguna Beach, here are some places where you can help out in the community:
- Beach Clean Ups. Participating in a beach clean up is such a great way to give back to Laguna Beach and its’ beautiful beaches. Organizations like the Eco Warrior Foundation and the Orange County Chapter of Surfrider host many cleanups in Laguna Beach. Companies like Hobie usually partner with local foundations to host a few throughout the year as well. If you’re coming to the beach for the day, you can do your part by just picking up trash while you’re there!
- Volunteering Time at the Laguna Food Pantry. The Laguna Food Pantry helps those in need in the local community of Laguna Beach by providing free, fresh nutritious groceries. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities including greeting shoppers, fundraising, administrative tasks, grocery pick-up, sorting and stocking shelves. You can also make a difference by hosting your own food drive! To volunteer, call (949) 497-7121 or email volunteer@lagunafoodpantry.org
- The Friendship Shelter. The Friendship Shelter helps homeless adults achieve self-sufficiency and become more productive members of our community. Friendship Shelter’s volunteers prepare, cook and help serve hot, healthy meals for its residents every night of the week. To volunteer, call (949) 494-6928 or email their office at office@friendshipshelter.org
- Pacific Marine Mammal Center. The Pacific Marine Mammal Center rescues, rehabilitates and releases seals and sea lions from local oceans. Volunteering at the PMMC can include helping with animal care, docent & education, in the gift shop and junior camp.
- Laguna Canyon Foundation. You can serve as a short term or long term volunteer at the Laguna Canyon Foundation. If you’re in to helping preserve the rich biodiverse habitat in the canyon, this is a great volunteer opportunity. From a morning of maintaining trails and helping to restore habitat to tending to the plants– this is a great one for outdoorsy folks.
- Assistance League Laguna Beach. To volunteer with the Assistance League Laguna Beach, all you have to do is become a member and then you can volunteer in the thrift shop and other programs. If you haven’t stopped by the thrift store yet, it’s definitely a place to check out. There are a lot of gems you can discover each week.
- Boys and Girls Club of Laguna Beach. Help support the staff at the Boys and Girls Club and sign up to volunteer! This is a great opportunity for those that love activities! Volunteers are typically asked to commit at least 2-6 hours per week. Email katea@bgclaguna.org for more information.
- Friends of the Laguna Beach Library. The Bookshop is always looking for volunteers to help out. It’s a great place where profits help source revenue for library sponsored events. The library hosts so many amazing events for the kiddos. Our daughter loves visiting the library. Get more information by emailing info@friendsofthelagunabeachlibrary.org.
- Donate your time and talents at The Susi Q. Join seniors helping seniors at the Susi Q. Volunteers can help with events, in the library, with the arts, join a board committee, and more!
