11 Things to do in Heisler Park

Heisler Park is one of the most relaxing all encompassing areas where everyone can find something that makes them happy. Here are some awesome things can you can do and see in Heisler Park in Laguna Beach!

Location: 375 Cliff Drive, Laguna Beach, California 92651

1. Take a walk
Ok, I know “taking a walk” doesn’t sound interesting but once you see Heisler Park you’ll see what I mean. It’s right above the ocean, has a lot of greenery, and a lot of public art and sculptures to view.

2. Explore the beach
Everywhere you turn in Laguna Beach there is….a beach. At Heisler Park, you have access to Picnic Beach, Diver’s Cove, Rockpile Beach and Main Beach. These are all great beaches for different reasons.

3. Brunch with a view
One of the most amazing brunches in Laguna is at Las Brisas – with a view! Oh my goodness. The food and that VIEW. You will not be disappointed.

4. Games in the grass
There are a lot of grassy areas at Heisler Park so we usually like to bring games to play and stay a while. (especially on a beautiful day). Puzzles, bubbles, cornhole….anything that is fun to do outdoors! We love the Banana Panda games and puzzles because they come in a durable box with a handle.

5. Check out the tidepools
Tidepools are pretty rad and Laguna is full of them! Heisler Park is a spot that has some awesome tidepools that you can check out. Your kids will love discovering all the marine life.

6. Have a cookout or picnic
There are BBQs and picnic tables in Heisler Park. Make a picnic at home or grab some food from a nearby spot and enjoy your meal outdoors! Here are some places nearby:

  • Urth Caffe is right across the street and is perfect for an on-the-go coffee, lunch or dinner. I love their latte’s, sandwiches and salads. Oh my goodness, their apple pies are UHHH-mazing!
  • Zeytoon Cafe serves delicious Mediterranean food. This would be a good option for a family style picnic.

7. Yoga at the whale
There is a one-hour yoga class that happens in Heisler Park daily at 9:15am (suggested $15 donation). The classes are called “Yoga at the Whale” and held outside in the terrace between Jasmine and Myrtle st. Who doesn’t love a little yoga on the ocean??

8. Go surfing (or watch the surfers)
You may spot some surfers while walking along the paths in Heisler Park! There are plenty of benches (many were donated in honor of individuals or families so be sure to read the plaques on them). If you’re a surfer, head down to the beach and jump in! There are always quite a few surfers down there and we love to watch them.

9. Try lawn bowling
You can’t miss the extremely large lawn bowling greens in Heisler Park. If you join the lawn bowling club you gain access to the greens and the materials to play. I’ve never played before, but it looks fun!

10. Admire the (really cool) public art
All throughout Heisler Park, you’ll find a variety of different kinds of public art on display. They are all very unique and special to the town. Also, don’t forget to look down! Some of my favorite things to discover are on the floor. That sounds weird, but really!

11. Catch a beautiful sunset
If sunsets are your thing (let’s be real—it’s everyone’s THING), Heisler Park is a great place to catch them! The view is amazing from anywhere in the park. While we’re on the topic of “sunsets” — in September and May, Laguna Beach hosts “Sunset Serenades” in Heisler Park! It’s located in the amphitheater, and each week there is a different musical guest that serenades families in the park. Bring a blanket, food + drinks and enjoy! Head to Visit Laguna in those months for the full lineup of musical acts.
