Raising A Daughter In Today’s World || Feat. Bible Belles

Posted in Mom Life

With all the craziness and chaos in the world today, I often think about our daughter and how we hope to raise her to be accepting of all people and to know her identity rooted in Christ. We also hope that while she’s growing up and starting to build deeper relationships with friends, that she’s known to be loyal, someone who’s selfless, and always putting the needs of others before her own. I’m so grateful to have found a children’s book series that points our kids to God in a compelling way.

I recently came across Erin Weidemann’s book series called Bible Belles. If you haven’t heard of Bible Belles, it’s a series that follows the adventures of Rooney Cruz, a nine-year-old girl who, through an angel, witnesses various women in the bible and their unique value. The beginning of each book begins with a common scenario that young children typically encounter (or may encounter).

In Ruth: The Belle of Loyalty, Rooney is trying to console a good friend who’s upset about a family issue. While trying to help, Rooney offers to pray for her. Rooney’s friend initially gets upset and storms off with two other friends, leaving Rooney sad and upset.

An angel named Mari appears and takes Rooney back into the past, showing her scenes from Ruth’s story. Rooney witnesses Ruth and the way that she put Naomi’s needs before her own. By the end of the story, Rooney learns that Ruth could not turn her back on her friend (regardless of how she felt she was treated), and by God’s grace was able to provide comfort for her grieving friend. Rooney receives the bell of loyalty, and learns that “a true friend loves at all times.”

Overall, the Bible Belles book series helps connect our daughters to women of the Bible by showing them that God is their strength, and that’s all they need to overcome any obstacles they may face.

In a society where our little girls are now looking up to Hollywood stars, fictional characters and constantly comparing themselves, I’m excited to have a resource where the real heroes/role models are powerful women in the bible.
