The Beginner’s Guide to Planning a Family Trip to Walt Disney World

Posted in All Things Disney

We are headed to Disney World this summer! It will be my first time in Florida AND my first time going to Disney World. While there, we will be celebrating our 5th year wedding anniversary (a little early). Here’s how I’m preparing our little family for this exciting trip to the Magic Kingdom:

Book the Hotel
We are going to look for a hotel that is affordable, in a convenient location with awesome amenities. In our search so far, we’ve noticed that there are so many hotels near the parks to choose from. Depending on what your needs are, you can find one that accommodates almost everything. Filter your search for the closest place to stay near the park you’re planning on visiting, the price range in your budget or even the type of resort you’re looking for and you’ll be sure to find the perfect one.

Purchase park tickets in advance
One last thing to purchase while onsite. We’re planning on getting our park tickets in advance. That way we will be ready to go when we get to the park right when it opens!

Download the My Disney Experience app
Nowadays, there is an app for everything even a visit to Walt Disney World. I plan to use this app to plan and organize our park visit. I’m most excited to check the wait times for rides, showtimes for live shows and character visit schedules, reserve tables for lunch and even secure fast passes.

Create a ‘what to do’ list
Since we’ll be going with our daughter who is officially a toddler now, we plan to make a list of all the rides we can go on with her. I also plan to make a list of the shows we hope to see and characters we hope to meet. She LOOOOOOOVES singing and dancing, so we will definitely make time to see a parade!

Make a ‘day of’ packing list
Days with a toddler can be unpredictable, so we’ll need to plan for anything. I’m making a packing list specifically for our day in the park. I also heard the weather can be unpredictable in Florida, so rain or shine, we need to prepare for it all.

Periodically check the @WDWToday twitter handle
The official Walt Disney World Twitter handle is a great way to stay up to date with happenings at the parks daily. The Guest Services Cast Members run the feed, and you can engage with them. Be sure to tag them in your photos while at the parks! You may get a feature.

Make note of all the WDW hashtags and Disney handles for social media
Obviously, there will be some great photo opportunities at Walt Disney World. I’m preparing a list of relevant hashtags and handles that I plan to tag while we’re there. This will definitely save time. I’m coming for you purple wall

Stock up on some new Disney tees and accessories
There are so many cute little shops that I’ve found on Instagram that have unique Disney-themed apparel and accessories. A few of my favorites I’ve found so far are The Main Street Press, Walts Wardrobe, and ToNeverNeverland.

Count down the days until the BEST DAY EVER!
