5 Tips That Will Help Ease Your Transition Back To Work After Maternity Leave

For me, the transition back from maternity leave was so so. I wasn’t necessarily excited to go back to work, but I was definitely ready to get our ‘new normal’ figured out. Here are some tips that helped me transition back to work after maternity leave:

Finding childcare early
If you are looking into daycare, I recommend jumping on this early, as most people only take one or two infants at a time, so they are limited. I know for us, once we found the perfect childcare situation it eased our concerns for us both returning to work and allowed me to really focus on my last few weeks with our baby girl at home. 


Ease into it
Going back to work after maternity leave can be hard. If you feel as though you aren’t quite ready to jump right in, set up a meeting with your boss, before you go back to work, to discuss your concerns. State your concerns, and work through some solutions that will help you ease into work smoothly and efficiently.


Get your morning routine in place
Now that you have a newborn, it’s important to have a game plan so that your mornings run as smooth as possible. I know it’s not always going to go as planned, (trust me, I’ve had some CRAZY mornings), but at least you will have somewhat of a foundation set to know what needs to get done and what you need to have in order to leave the house in somewhat of a timely manner. 


Accept that things might be different
A lot can change during your leave from work. When you return, some things may have changed or will change. Pumping between meetings, sick days from daycare, etc…I’d say just go with the flow and know that you are doing the best you can for you and your family.


Don’t take things too personal
Some people may say things to you, not knowing or understanding how it may affect you. Don’t take anything anyone says in the office personal. You do what you do, and you do it to the best of your ability. That’s all that matters.
